Choosing with intention
When searching for the "best" yoga retreat, the answer depends entirely on what your nervous system requires. A retreat should never be chosen randomly; it should be chosen with intention, specifically for the energy that the location holds.
I have hosted retreats in two primary locations—Sedona, Arizona, and Baja, Mexico—because they offer two distinct, potent energies that serve different therapeutic needs.
The vastness of Sedona
Sedona is renowned for its red rock formations and powerful energetic vortexes. The energy here is dynamic and transformative.
"Sedona is powerful. She moves things around, she opens you up, she is vast and wise." — Tiffany Bergin
A retreat in Sedona is for the student who is ready to be opened up. It is for those navigating life transitions, seeking clarity, or needing the space to release long-held grief. The vastness of the landscape supports deep introspective work, and the community that gathers there is invariably drawn by a shared destiny to support one another through profound shifts.
"The people who say yes seem to have a destiny to share a moment in time together. One of the most profound things I witness when holding space on retreat is how the participants invest in one another." — Tiffany Bergin, C-IAYT, CIYT
The stillness of Baja
In contrast to the active, opening energy of Sedona, Baja offers a deeply grounding experience. The rhythm of the ocean and the simplicity of the environment create a completely different container for practice.
"Baja is a slow pace, intentional, breath and ocean. The energy is of a village, a nomad's escape." — Tiffany Bergin
A retreat in Baja is for the student who is exhausted, over-stimulated, or recovering from burnout. It is a place to slow down, to align your breathing with the rhythm of the waves, and to find the quiet intention of a nomadic escape.
